A pair of Florida football teams take center stage tonight, as the Dolphins head to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars on Thursday Night Football.
The Jaguars are 3-point favorites (-160 on the moneyline) at William Hill, with the total currently at 49. The Dolphins, who are 0-2 to start the season, are priced at +140 to get their first win tonight.
Miami fell 21-11 in its season opener against the Patriots as a 7-point underdog, but covered the following week as a 5.5-point home underdog in a 31-28 defeat to the Bills.
Meanwhile, Jacksonville has covered the spread in both of its contests, upsetting the Colts 27-20 as a 7-point home underdog in Week 1 and losing a tight 33-30 affair to the Titans as a 7-point underdog in Week 2.
Many William Hill bettors believe the Jaguars can be on the right side of the number again tonight.
“Jacksonville has been overachieving this season,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “They’re drawing money tonight, so the public sure likes them. We’re definitely going to need the Dolphins here. [Gardner] Minshew’s been playing great ball, so that’s big. Obviously it’s a quarterback league, and he has the edge over [Ryan] Fitzpatrick tonight.”
Jacksonville has brought in 73% of the total number of tickets and 77% of the total dollars wagered among all spread bets on TNF vs. Miami. That includes one Nevada bettor placing $50,000 on Jaguars -3 (EVEN) for a total potential payout of $100,000.
The Jaguars also have the advantage among all moneyline bets, as Jacksonville has captured 56% of the total number of tickets and 72% of the total dollars wagered in that category.
The total for this TNF throwdown opened at 45, yet it has shot up four points to its current standing of 49. That’s the biggest shift thus far on any NFL Week 3 total. Not surprisingly, the majority of the total number of tickets (70%) and the total dollars wagered (69%) are on the over for Dolphins vs. Jaguars.
“All the bets are on the over, which is not a surprise in an isolated NFL game,” said Bogdanovich. “Pretty much every Sunday and Monday night game we need the under. Thursday usually isn’t as bad, but we’ll definitely need the under tonight.”
