A Super Bowl 53 rematch kicks off the NFL Week 14 action tonight at 8:20 p.m. ET/5:20 p.m. PT.
The Rams will be out for revenge following a 13-3 loss to the Patriots two Februarys ago, as they are hosting New England on Thursday Night Football. Los Angeles is currently a 4.5-point favorite (-220 moneyline), while the Patriots are +190 to take the game outright.
The Rams opened as 5-point home chalk and were as high as -6 throughout the week. The total for this matchup has seen some movement as well, shifting 1.5 points from 45 to 43.5.
“There has been two-way action on this game for sure, we’re dead even on it,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “The line has bounced around quite a bit. The Patriots have looked better of late, but the Rams are usually strong at home. People trust the Patriots making their playoff push and that’s why they’ve been betting Patriots on the moneyline quite a bit. But we have plenty of Rams backers too.”
Los Angeles has attracted 56% of the total number of tickets and 60% of the total dollars wagered among all spread bets for tonight’s game. New England, though, has seized 59% of the total number of tickets and 52% of the total dollars wagered for all of the moneyline bets.
William Hill bettors are even more divided on the total.
While the over has the advantage with 62% of the total number of tickets, the under leads the way with 72% of the total dollars wagered. That is highlighted by one Nevada bettor placing $33,000 on Patriots/Rams under 45 (-110) for a total potential payout of $63,000, which is the largest wager taken at William Hill thus far for this game.
“I’m not surprised this total has dropped,” Bogdanovich said. “The Patriots try to shorten the game as much as possible. They’re always so good with a defensive gameplan. Guess people think it’s going to be a tight one. It’ll obviously come down to execution, but this is definitely one of the better coaching matchups you’ll see.”
One player prop in this contest has stood out in terms of total dollars wagered so far at William Hill is the over on James White total receptions. That number for the Patriots running back is now set at 2.5, with the over at -190 and the under at +155.
