Pro Football Week 5: Early Odds Report

We’ve reached the quarter mark of the NFL regular season with four weeks already down. William Hill has odds up for 13 Week 5 matchups, with Bills vs. Titans and Broncos vs. Patriots currently off the board.

“There aren’t a lot of marquee matchups this week, that’s why it seems like every game is at a touchdown or higher,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading at William Hill US. “It’s going to be teaser city this week. We just need one of these big underdogs somehow pull off an upset, otherwise it’s going to be ugly. We’ve had some really good weeks so far with some incredible matchups, but it seems like all the good teams are playing all the bad teams this weekend.”

Of the 13 games available, nine games have a spread of seven points or higher. The two double-digit favorites as of now are the Ravens (-13.5) hosting the Bengals and the Raiders traveling to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs (-13). Additionally, seven totals are in the 50s, led by Sunday night’s Vikings vs. Seahawks affair at 58.

There have been several Week 5 odds shifts early on, including one spread and two totals that have made by over two points each.

“We opened the Colts-Browns at pick’em and now it’s Indy -2.5,” Bogdanovich said. “It’s a weird move just with Cleveland coming off that big win in Dallas, they’re 3-1 and riding high. But Colts were projected to be really good at the beginning of the year and drew a lot of preseason money with their win total, AFC and Super Bowl futures.

“That may end up being the best bet game this week with both teams 3-1, best matchup of the late afternoon slate and the line under 3.”

The two totals that have had notable movement have been in favor of the under. The total for Raiders vs. Chiefs has shifted three points, going from an opener of 59 to its current number of 56. Eagles vs. Steelers has dropped quite a bit as well, as that total now resides at 44 after originally being set at 46.5.

The biggest NFL Week 5 as of now at William Hill has come in on the biggest favorite. A Nevada bettor placed $11,000 on Ravens -13.5 (-110) vs. the Bengals for a total potential payout of $21,000.
