The Canadiens were able to stay alive in the Stanley Cup Final after pulling out a Game 4 overtime win in Montreal. Now they look to extend the series to a sixth game, but can they pull one out on the road against the Lightning?
The Lightning had a chance to clinch their second straight Stanley Cup on Monday after outscoring the Canadiens by a combined score of 14-5 in the first three games. Yet, Montreal eked out a 3-2 triumph after Josh Anderson’s goal in overtime.
Now the series shifts back to Tampa Bay, with Game 5 set to start at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
The Lightning are currently -240 moneyline favorites at William Hill over the Canadiens (+210 ML). Tampa Bay opened at -215 before shooting up 25 cents to its current number, whereas Montreal was first shown at +185.
In fact, -240 is the highest price they’ve been in any contest this entire Stanley Cup Playoffs. The only other times the Lightning closed at -200 or higher were Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Semifinals against the Islanders (-200), Game 1 against the Canadiens (-200) and Game 2 against the Canadiens (-210).
The majority of William Hill bettors think Tampa Bay will complete the repeat tonight. The Lightning have nabbed 74% of the total number of tickets and 65% of the total dollars wagered among all moneyline wagers against the Canadiens.
The bigger Game 5 wager as of now, though, is on the underdog. A New Jersey bettor placed $64,500 on Canadiens ML +200 for a total potential payout of $193,500.
William Hill bettors are also aligned on the total, which currently resides at 5 (over -130/under +110). The over has accumulated 77% of the total number of tickets and 87% of the total dollars wagered.
Just four teams in Stanley Cup Playoffs history have come back from 0-3 series deficits, with the only one in the Stanley Cup Final being Maple Leafs over Red Wings back in 1942. Ahead of Game 4, the Canadiens were +2500 at William Hill to win the series while the Lightning were -10000. Montreal’s series price is now +1500, whereas Tampa Bay’s is -4000.
