On April 14, 2011, William Hill PLC announced that it had signed an agreement to acquire American Wagering, Inc. and to acquire the Club Cal Neva Satellite Race and Sports Book Division (the Cal Neva Sports Book Division).
American Wagering, which employed approximately 200 people, is the longest-standing sports book operator in the State of Nevada having been established through the “Leroy’s” brand in 1978. It has a track-record of innovation, having developed the first approved, purpose-built, computerized bookmaking system in Nevada and the first approved self-service, cash-based betting terminal. At the time of the acquisition, it operated 72 sports books and kiosks on behalf of other casino operators under the “Leroy’s” brand.
The Cal Neva Sports book Division was a part of the Sierra Development Company, a privately-owned casino and hotel business. Established in 1989, it operated 31 sportsbooks in Nevada and employed approximately 120 people.
On May 3, 2011, William Hill PLC announced that it had signed a binding agreement to acquire Brandywine Bookmaking LLC, a land-based sports betting business operating in Nevada and Delaware.
Brandywine, which employed approximately 90 people, operated 16 sports books in Nevada under the Lucky’s brand and one in St. Kitts in the Caribbean. In addition, it was the exclusive odds maker for the Delaware State Sports Lottery.
On June 21, 2012, William Hill PLC was licensed to operate by the Nevada Gaming Commission, which unanimously supported its acquisition of the three sports book companies.
William Hill US currently runs 100+ sports betting locations as well as the Mobile Sports app in Nevada. In addition, William Hill serves as the exclusive risk manager for the State of Delaware’s Sports Lottery.
