BY JIMMY VACCARO
Like many, I have a routine on both Saturday and Sunday during football. And I’m sure most of the readers have one also.
I stop at a few joints on my way to the William Hill hub, which is becoming as prevalent and stronger than ever in our gambling mood and habits. I might hit the Strat, Palace Station, South Point plus a few of our own Hill shops – even at ungodly times starting at 7 in the morning.
You can find people congregating, usually with the same group of friends and acquaintances. For a lack of a better way of putting it, these places become our home away from home. We claim, preserve and will fight for our turf.
Lay a huge price if you walked in with me Saturday or Sunday morning at the Palace. You will run into Steubenville Richard, Tommy, and Jesus, who was a fixture at the Stardust until they tore it down and put up a parking lot. Thank you, Joni Mitchell.
Look for a better number and leave that up to the guys on the street. We are home and will deal with whatever is on the board. Not counting tourist traffic, next weekend look around the room and take stock of who is in the trenches with you.
You are in your comfort zone, so do it as long as possible. Nice to have friends even though you both had the “damn” Patriots on all the teaser cards last Sunday. At least you went down together.
Take care, Jimmy V.
