The college football season is just a few days away, so let’s wrap up Power 5 conference win totals with the Big 12.
The Big 12 has had a turbulent offseason with the announcement that Texas and Oklahoma accepted invites to eventually join the SEC. For this football season, however, all 10 teams are in the fold, and William Hill Nevada has win totals up for nine of them (Kansas is not available).
The Big 12 is also home to the only Power 5 team to be receiving 100% of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered on one side of their win total at William Hill. This is also the only Power 5 conference where zero teams’ unders have gotten the majority of the total number of tickets.
Let’s start with the highest win total in the conference, though, as Oklahoma sits at 11. The Sooners are tied with Ohio State for the third-highest win total in the country, as both trail Alabama and Clemson at 11.5. Oklahoma’s over and under opened at -110 apiece for 11, however now the over is priced at -120 and the under is at even-money odds.
The Sooners’ over has drawn 68% of the total number of tickets and 87% of the total dollars wagered. The latter is the fourth-highest percentage in the conference, as there are three other over that have received stronger backing from William Hill bettors.
No one has sided with West Virginia under 6.5 yet at William Hill, as Mountaineers over 6.5 leads the Big 12 with both 100% of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered. As a result, West Virginia over 6.5 has moved from -130 to -145.
The two other teams to have grabbed at least 90% of the total dollars wagered on their overs are Oklahoma State over 7.5 at 98% and TCU over 7.5 at 91%. Oklahoma State over 7.5 also ranks second in total number of tickets at 88%, while TCU over 7.5 is fourth in that category among all Big 12 teams at 82%.
One Nevada bettor put down $4,000 on Oklahoma State over 7.5 (-120) for a total potential payout of $7,333.35, the largest Big 12 win total wager taken thus far at William Hill.
Yet, even with high percentages on several overs, only one Big 12 win total has changed numbers. Texas Tech opened at 4.5 with the over a sizable favorite at -145 and the under at +125. Now the Red Raiders are at 5.5 with the over at -120 and the under at even-money odds. Texas Tech’s over has attracted 86% of the total number of tickets and 67% of the total dollars wagered.
The two Big 12 teams that William Hill bettors are the most divided on are Iowa State (9.5) and Texas (8). While the majority of the total number of tickets are on the over Iowa State 9.5 (70%) and Texas over 8 (74%), these two unders actually lead the way in total dollars wagered at 60% and 56% respectively.
