The PGA season is nearly coming to a close, as just the three-week FedEx Cup Playoffs remain for the world’s top golfers.
The first of three tournaments is the Northern Trust, where the top-125 golfers in FedEx points all qualify to play at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City starting on Thursday. The only one not competing of the 125 is Louis Oosthuizen after he withdrew from last week’s Wyndham Championship.
William Hill Nevada has futures posted for 99 golfers plus the field (all others), and the current favorite will be playing in his first PGA Tour event since last month’s Open Championship.
Jon Rahm will come into the Northern Trust fifth in the FedEx Cup standings, however he’s still leading the way at +900. Rahm had opened at 13/1 when William Hill released these futures on August 16, and swung over to +900 today.
Rahm is far from the only golfer to have experienced an odds shift over the past day.
The next six golfers with the lowest odds have all seen their number improve as well from where they opened at: Jordan Spieth (20/1 to 16/1), Dustin Johnson (20/1 to 17/1), Collin Morikawa (20/1 to 18/1), Rory McIlroy (26/1 to 18/1), Bryson DeChambeau (26/1 to 20/1) and Justin Thomas (28/1 to 20/1).
Conversely, two of the golfers near the top of the board who have seen their odds worsen are Xander Schauffele (22/1 to 25/1) and Brooks Koepka (24/1 to 28/1). Joining Koepka at 28/1 is Webb Simpson, who was first listed at 45/1.
The field (all others) resides at 30/1, along with Hideki Matsuyama, Paul Casey and Daniel Berger. There are only three others below 40/1: Patrick Cantlay (33/1), Viktor Hovland (33/1) and Scottie Scheffler (35/1).
Even with a loaded group playing in New Jersey, many William Hill bettors still have their eye on the favorite. Rahm is tops in total dollars wagered at 18% and is second in total number of tickets at 5%.
Morikawa is the only golfer surpassing Rahm in total number of tickets at 7%, whereas DeChambeau joins Rahm as the only two with a double-digit percentage for total dollars wagered at 15%.
One Nevada bettor put $2,500 on DeChambeau 26/1 for a total potential payout of $67,500, which is the largest bet taken for the 2021 Northern Trust thus far at William Hill. Rahm has drawn two separate $1,000 wagers, one at 13/1 from an Illinois bettor and one at 11/1 from a Nevada bettor. The only other player to nab a $1,000 bet is Casey at 45/1, for a total potential payout of $46,000.
