How is UFC 259 setting the scene this Saturday from Las Vegas? Try not one, not two, but three title bouts on this latest card.
There are 15 fights in all scheduled for UFC 259, including the headliner between Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya. Blachowicz (27-8) will be aiming to defend his light heavyweight championship against an undefeated Adesanya (20-0), who is the current middleweight champion.
Adesanya opened as -260 chalk at William Hill for this matchup, and has since moved slightly down to -255. Meanwhile, Blachowicz is listed at +215 and the total is set at 2.5 (over -140, under +120). One Nevada bettor placed $5,300 on Adesanya -265 for a total potential payout of $7,300, which is the largest UFC 259 wager taken thus far at William Hill.
The co-main event features the biggest favorite on the card. Amanda Nunes (20-4) will look to make it an even dozen wins in a row in her latest championship bout against Megan Anderson (11-4). Nunes is priced at -1100 whereas Anderson is +700 to pull off the massive upset.
Nunes last fought in UFC 250 on June 6, 2020, where she drew a $1 million wager at -600 against Felicia Spencer for a total payout of $1,166,666.70. That was the largest MMA bet ever taken at William Hill.
“There will be a ton of parlays to Nunes, but because of the straight bets, we’ll need the favorite to win for sure,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “Any time you can get a quality underdog at such a high price, people are going to jump at that. There will be a lot of parlays with Adesanya too. We’ll probably be rooting for Blachowicz to break up all those parlays since his price is much lower for the straight bets than Anderson.”
The third title fight is in the bantamweight division between champion Petr Yan (15-1) and No. 1-ranked contender Aljamain Sterling (19-3). This line has moved considerably, as Yan went from a -140 opener to his current standing as a slight -120 favorite. On the other side, Sterling now resides at even-money odds after his original position at +120.
The biggest shift, though, is on an early preliminary showdown. Carlos Ulberg opened at -185 at William Hill against Kennedy Nzechukwu, and is now all the way up to Ulberg -245.
