Bet NFL with William Hill, America’s #1 sportsbook.
Ever since William Hill released its NFL Week 15 spreads on Sunday, quite a few games have already had major spread shifts. Four contests have moved by at least 1.5 points, and three of those have had changes of 2.5 points or more.
Of the showdowns with the biggest line moves, only one matchup between two playoff contenders has seen a noteworthy shift. The Seahawks originally were listed as 4-point road favorites over Washington at William Hill, however Seattle now sits at -5.5 for Sunday’s battle.
“I’m not surprised by that move,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “Seattle, obviously they’re fighting for the division with the Rams. Their defense has been shored up a bit, so now they look like a sound football team. Washington is still Washington on offense. They either have to send out a beat-up Alex Smith or Dwayne Haskins, who hasn’t shown much at all. Given the difference at quarterback between these two teams, the line looked a little short at first to me.”
The other games that have had significant moves involve three current road favorites: 49ers (pick’em to -3) at Cowboys, Buccaneers (-3.5 to -6) at Falcons and Bills (-4 to -6.5) at Broncos. In Week 14, the Bills were responsible for the biggest line shift, going from +2.5 to closing at -2 in their 26-15 home victory over the Steelers on Sunday night.
“I don’t see this [Bills at Broncos] line getting up to 7,” Bogdanovich said. “Denver’s been playing pretty good ball at home and [Drew] Lock is coming off a nice game against Carolina. I know Buffalo looked like world-beaters against Pittsburgh, but they now have a short week. I don’t understand why the line has moved this much.
Then, of course, there’s the massive head-to-head between the Chiefs and Saints. Kansas City is currently the Super Bowl favorite at William Hill at +180, while New Orleans is tied for the second-lowest odds with Green Bay at 7/1. The Chiefs opened as 3.5-point road favorites in New Orleans and went up to -4 briefly, but are now at -3 (-120).
“I think the public will be betting the Chiefs pretty heavily here, with the Saints just losing to the Eagles and a rookie quarterback starting his first game,” Bogdanovich said. “Now they’re facing the Chiefs and all their speed on turf. But the Saints are physical defensively, and I’m not sure the Chiefs will get anything they want like they did against Miami. There’s no question it’s a potential Super Bowl matchup. I can’t wait to see who wins this game, my sneaky gut feeling is upset.”
The largest NFL Week 15 wager taken thus far at William Hill has come in on a different AFC West team. The Chargers and Raiders kick off the action on Thursday night from Las Vegas, and one Nevada bettor put down $20,000 on Raiders -3 (-125) for a total potential payout of $36,000. The spread has since jumped up half a point to Raiders -3.5.
