There were a couple major upsets last Saturday, but which underdogs are William Hill bettors rolling with this weekend?
Just two underdogs facing ranked opponents in Week 5 are attracting both the majority of the total number of tickets and total dollars wagered in their matchups: No. 7 Auburn and TCU.
Auburn travels to No. 4 Georgia in the first top-10 clash of the season. The Bulldogs are favored by a touchdown at home, as the spread has shifted half a point from its -6.5 opener. Despite the line movement going in Georgia’s direction, William Hill bettors are backing the road team. The Tigers have received 65% of the total number of tickets as well as 52% of the total dollars wagered.
No. 9 Texas needed a miraculous comeback to outlast Texas Tech last weekend and moved to 2-0 on the season. Meanwhile, TCU dropped its season opener by three points this past Saturday to Iowa State. Yet, after opening as 13-point road underdogs in Austin, the Horned Frogs are down to +12. The majority of William Hill bettors are expecting a close one in this Big 12 battle, as TCU has reeled in 58% of the total number of tickets and 59% of the total dollars wagered.
There’s also been some strong line movement in a Week 5 game featuring one unranked team hosting a top-25 foe. SMU opened as a 2.5-point home underdog to No. 25 Memphis, however that spread has moved to pick’em. That is the biggest line move of any Week 5 college football game involving a top-25 team. William Hill bettors have sided with the 3-0 Mustangs here, as SMU has generated 67% of the total number of tickets and 56% of the total dollars wagered.
Two ranked teams have captured at least 80% of the total number of tickets and the total dollars wagered in their Week 5 game, and they’re both road favorites from the same state.
No. 17 Oklahoma State is a 22.5-point favorite at Kansas, and the Cowboys lead all top-25 teams with 85% of the total number of tickets. They also rank second in total dollars wagered at 93%, only trailing No. 15 Cincinnati (-21.5 vs. USF) at 95%.
Meanwhile, No. 18 Oklahoma is -7 at Iowa State after a stunning defeat to unranked Kansas State last weekend. William Hill bettors, though, are buying big on a Sooners bounce back, as they’ve gotten 80% of the total number of tickets and 89% of the total dollars wagered.
The biggest Week 5 spread bet taken thus far at William Hill comes from the SEC. A Nevada bettor placed $5,636.35 on No. 3 Florida -17.5 against South Carolina for a total potential payout of $10,760.30.
But the four largest Week 5 bets at William Hill as of now all are on totals. One Nevada bettor wagered $33,000 each on USF vs. No. 15 Cincinnati under 47.5 (-110), East Carolina vs. Georgia State under 69.5 (-110), No. 12 North Carolina vs. Boston College under 55 (-110) and Virginia Tech vs. Duke over 53 (-110).
