The NHL announced in late May its plan to go straight into a new playoff format once its season returns, meaning many William Hill bettors’ futures tickets are back in action.
After taking a deep dive last week at the 2019-20 Stanley Cup futures odds and trends, let’s now look at Eastern Conference futures.
The Bruins are 11/4 favorites to win the 2019-20 Eastern Conference, with the Lightning right behind at 13/4. Yet, a couple of teams lower down the board have sparked strong interest among William Hill bettors.
The Lightning, Capitals (17/4) and Rangers (25/1) each have received 13% of the total dollars wagered. The Maple Leafs (11/1) and Panthers (30/1) round out the top five at 12% and 11% respectively.
One New Jersey bettor placed $2,400 on Rangers 33/1, which is this year’s conference futures bet with the largest potential payout at William Hill. If the Rangers were to represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Final, that bettor would receive $81,600.
The Panthers have attracted two other notable Eastern Conference futures bets at William Hill. One Nevada bettor put down $2,000 on Panthers 22/1, which could collect a total payout of $46,000. Meanwhile, a New Jersey bettor placed $2,025 on Panthers 14/1, which potentially could end up with a total payout of $30,375.
In terms of total number of tickets, the Capitals lead the way at 14%. The Bruins and Flyers (5/1) are next at 13% apiece, with the Rangers and Islanders (25/1) also close by with each at 11%.
