The NFL is known for its parity, as there’s often major shakeups year after year in the standings. There were three new division champs this past season: the Eagles in the NFC East, the Packers in the NFC North and the 49ers in the NFC West. But who will surprise in this upcoming campaign?
All eight teams that finished in first in their respective division for the 2019-20 regular season opened as the favorites or co-favorite to do so in William Hill’s 2020-21 division futures.
The defending champion Chiefs opened as the biggest favorite of any team to win its division for the 2020-21 regular season, as Kansas City is -350 to finish atop the AFC West for the fifth straight year.
The Patriots, despite all of the uncertainty surrounding Tom Brady’s future in New England, are the next-biggest favorite at -300 to win their 12th consecutive AFC East title.
The 49ers, coming off their appearance in Pro Football Championship Game 54, lead the way in the NFC West at +105, though the Seahawks (+210) and Rams (3/1) aren’t that far behind.
It’s a logjam in the AFC South, as it has three co-favorites at 2/1 apiece. The Texans have captured the division in two straight seasons and the Titans are fresh off a thrilling postseason run until they bowed out to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Meanwhile, the Colts are the only squad that finished with a losing record last season to be listed as a favorite or co-favorite for the 2020-21 regular season.
Additionally, the Eagles and Cowboys in the NFC East are the other teams to open up as co-favorites to win their division, as each has 6/5 odds.
