Selection Sunday is officially less than a month away, which means the college basketball regular season is coming to an end, and much quicker than you think. The best teams have separated themselves from the pack, and many of them sit atop the newest edition of the AP Top 25 rankings. Are there any teams, however, that could have AP voters fooled by their record?
William Hill’s Director of Trading Nick Bogdanovich shared his current top 25 in his power ratings, and there are some discrepancies between the two sets of teams. Bogdanovich also discusses which teams are better than their AP ranking this week along with one team that has been on the luckier side and isn’t quite as good as its ranking. But he feels this season of college basketball is a special case when it comes to separating the teams.
“This year is so close. These teams are so close,” Bogdanovich said. “Out of all the years I’ve ever seen, there’s literally 30 teams that are just next to each other. It’s a weird year to be talking about overrated and underrated because it’s probably less applicable this year than ever.”
Better Than Their Ranking: Michigan and Seton Hall
“I think Michigan ‘cause of injuries. With all their pieces, they’re pretty tough. I also like Seton Hall too. Those are the two I’d keep an eye on, I think they can make noise in the tournament.”
Worse Than Its Ranking: Auburn
“I think Auburn’s a little overrated. I give them credit for what they’ve done, but I think they’ve won like five games in overtime, so their record might be a little inflated. And their loss to Missouri [this past weekend] was embarrassing.”
