The NHL regular season starts tomorrow, with each team set to play 56 games in this abbreviated 2021 campaign.
William Hill released its regular-season point totals for all 31 teams on December 31, 2020, so which overs and unders have caught the attention of William Hill bettors?
First, let’s take a quick peek at the point totals themselves. The Golden Knights and Avalanche are tied with the highest point total at 74.5, followed by the defending champion Lightning at 72.5. Those are the only teams in the 70s.
The Maple Leafs are next at 69.5, followed by the Hurricanes, Blues and Bruins at 68.5 apiece. The Stars, last season’s runner-up, are close behind at 66.5.
The Red Wings are in their own class for lowest point total at 43.5, the next-lowest point total is the Senators at 50.5. The Blackhawks (51.5), Kings (51.5) and Devils (53.5) also find themselves at the bottom of the board.
Interestingly enough, 15 of the 31 teams have seen their point total decrease by at least 2 from the opening number. Three teams have even dropped by 3 points, which is tied for the biggest decline—the Islanders (65.5 to 62.5), Rangers (63.5 to 60.5) and Ducks (57.5 to 54.5). The only team with a multi-point increase is the Canadiens (63.5 to 65.5).
For the most popular over bet by total number of tickets, the Sabres (56.5) are tops with the Rangers and Golden Knights tied for second. The over on the Rangers’ point total is also second in total dollars wagered, as it’s in between the leading Red Wings and the No. 3 Maple Leafs.
On the other end, the same three teams are in the top 3 for most popular under bets by total number of tickets and total dollars wagered. For tickets, the Senators’ under is first, with the Ducks (54.5) and Bruins close behind. Meanwhile, no under has attracted more dollars than the Ducks’, with the next two being the Bruins and Senators.
Five $2,750 wagers were placed by one New Jersey bettor, which is the highest amount on any 2021 NHL regular-season point total thus far at William Hill. The bets came in on Maple Leafs over 68.5, Red Wings over 43.5, Canucks under 64.5, Ducks under 56.5 and Senators under 52.5. Each has a total potential payout of $5,250.
