Tennis is serving us three thrilling 2021 Australian Open semifinal matches over the next 12 hours, including an enormous battle over in the women’s bracket.
It doesn’t get much bigger than Naomi Osaka vs. Serena Williams. No. 3-ranked Osaka is looking for her second Australian Open championship in three years, while No. 10-ranked Williams is aiming to win it all Down Under for a historic eighth time as well as a record-tying 24th Grand Slam title.
Osaka opened at -155 with Williams first listed at +135 at William Hill. Osaka dipped to as low as -140 before settling at her current number of -160. Meanwhile, Williams is now +140 to pull off the outright upset.
William Hill bettors are siding with the underdog in tonight’s showdown at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on ESPN2. Williams is generating 64% of the total number of tickets as well as 51% of the total dollars wagered.
The biggest wager for this match, though, has come in on the favorite. A Nevada bettor placed $3,150 on Osaka -140 for a total potential payout of $5,400.
In the other women’s semifinal, No. 22 Jennifer Brady and No. 25 Karolina Muchova will face off at 11:15 p.m. ET/8:15 p.m. PT. Brady is up to -175 after opening at -170 at William Hill, whereas Muchova is priced at +155. Muchova has racked up some stunners in this tournament, however, as she’s beaten No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and No. 6 Karolina Pliskova.
The favorite has caught the attention of most William Hill bettors in this one, as Brady has collected 72% of the total number of tickets and 77% of the total dollars wagered.
At 3:30 a.m. ET/12:30 a.m. PT, the latest hurdle for men’s No. 1 Novak Djokovic and a third consecutive Australian Open title is No. 114-ranked Aslan Karatsev. Karatsev has emerged as the Cinderella story of this year’s competition, advancing to the semifinals in his main-draw debut.
But Karatsev faces a very tall task going up against Djokovic. Karatsev is listed as a +850 underdog, with Djokovic at -1450. The majority of William Hill bettors are rolling with the heavy chalk, as Djokovic has gotten 71% of the total number of tickets and 79% of the total dollars wagered.
Yet, a Nevada bettor thinks a historic upset could be in the cards. A $1,500 wager was placed on Karatsev +750 for a total potential payout of $12,750.
