The NFL MVP race has been a wild one all season long, and there was another massive shift in William Hill’s MVP futures following Week 16’s action.
Before last week’s results, Patrick Mahomes was the -240 favorite followed by Aaron Rodgers at +180 and Josh Allen at +850. After a dominant performance in the snow against the Titans this past Sunday night, though, Rodgers finds himself atop the odds board for the first time all season.
In states where William Hill is still offering MVP odds (New Jersey, West Virginia, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa), Rodgers leads the way at -380 with Mahomes second at +310 and Allen third at 12/1.
When William Hill first released NFL MVP odds in March, Rodgers was tied with Drew Brees, Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott for the seventh-lowest odds at 25/1. They trailed Mahomes (+450), Lamar Jackson (+700), Russell Wilson (10/1), Tom Brady (18/1), Deshaun Watson (20/1) and Kyler Murray (20/1).
The Packers quarterback was as high as 35/1 during the season, as his odds ticked upward before his Week 1 showdown with the Vikings. After throwing for four touchdowns in a victory over Green Bay’s NFC North rival, he dropped down to 10/1 and continued to see his odds lower until becoming the favorite ahead of Week 17.
Besides Mahomes and Rodgers, the only other player who was the MVP favorite at one point this season at William Hill was Wilson. Wilson overtook Mahomes in Week 2 at +350 and was listed at -180 after Week 8. Mahomes became the slight favorite once again after Week 10, edging Wilson +200 to +250.
Rodgers ranks third in total number of tickets at 12% and second in total dollars wagered at 27% for all NFL MVP futures wagers placed at William Hill since November. Mahomes (14%) and Murray (13%) are ahead in tickets over that span, while only Mahomes (48%) surpasses Rodgers in total dollars wagered.
Back in the middle of December, one Nevada bettor placed $9,000 on Rodgers +350 for a total potential payout of $40,500. Another Nevada bettor, though, put down $12,000 on Mahomes +200 for a total potential payout of $36,000. Those are the two biggest NFL MVP futures taken at William Hill since November.
